EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern came up on the short end of a 4-0 decision to No. 6 Illinois Friday night at the Combe Tennis Center.
Illinois claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3, including in a high-profile match at the No. 1 spot which saw No. 67 Aleks Vukic and Aron Hiltzik beat No. 50 Dominik Stary and Ben Vandixhorn, 6-3, to claim the point. Nick Brookes and Michael Lorenzini were tied at four at No. 2 when their match went unfinished.
Sophomore Dominik Stary led No. 17 Aleks Vukic 6-5 in the second set when their match went unfinished at No. 1. Junior Ben Vandixhorn took the first set, 6-3, over Aleks Kovacevic at the No. 4 spot.
The Illini got wins at Nos. 3, 6, and 2 in that order to claim the match.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action Sunday when it hosts Indiana (11 a.m.) and UIC (6 p.m.) for a doubleheader at the Combe Tennis Center.
