EVANSTON, Ill. — The ninth-ranked Northwestern lacrosse program will look to get back on track Saturday when it plays host to Marquette at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.
The Wildcats are 4-0 in the series, outscoring the Golden Eagles, 68-32. Marquette is one of 41 programs the Wildcats have never lost to. The list also includes a pair of opponents the 'Cats will face later this season in Michigan (6-0 all time) and Rutgers (10-0 all time).
The 'Cats suffered their second loss of the season last week to No. 1 Stony Brook, 15-10. Senior Sheila Nesselbush recorded a career-high five points in the contest on four goals and assists, while classmate Shelby Fredericks recorded a season-high 13 draw controls. The 'Cats put together a late second-half run to cut their deficit to two, but a 5-2 run by the Seawolves to close the game secured the win for the visitors.
NU will continue its six-game homestand next week versus No. 5 North Carolina before opening Big Ten play versus Michigan on March 23 and welcoming No. 8 Syracuse on March 26. The Wildcats have seven games remaining on their schedule versus ranked foes following this weekend's matchup versus Marquette.
Redshirt first-year goalkeeper Julie Krupnick remains among the nation's leaders in goals-against average in her first season in the cage. Krupnick leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the country with a goals- against average of 8.20. She has allowed just one opponent - Stony Brook - to reach double digit goals this season.
Senior defender Lindsay Darrell continues to lead the Big Ten with 1.67 caused turnovers per game. Darrell has reached double digit caused turnovers for the third time in her career and is just seven shy of her career high set during her rookie campaign.
