NORMAN, Okla. — Northwestern senior Dylan Wu has been named a finalist for the 2018 Byron Nelson Award, it was announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Wu joins Missouri's Hayden Buckley, Oklahoma's Grant Hirschman, Michigan's Kyle Mueller, and Baylor's Matthew Perrine as the five remaining candidates for the prestigious award.

Candidates for the Nelson Award, which is presented by Srixon/Cleveland Golf, must be a graduating senior and the selection committee considers equally a nominee's entire collegiate academic and golf career as well as his character and integrity while in college.

Particular consideration will be given to a nominee's good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career.

Wu is the fourth golfer in Northwestern history to be under consideration for the award, including Jack Perry in 2014, Chris Wilson in 2007, and Bjorn Widerstedt in 2003.

As a senior, the Medford, Oregon, native has already cemented his position as one of the most dominant golfers in Northwestern history and in the Big Ten. In each of his first three seasons for the Wildcats, Wu has finished in the top-15 in NU history for single-season scoring averages. Heading into 2018, Wu ranked second to only Luke Donald on NU's all-time list for career stroke average.

His 70.53 average from last season was the third-lowest in program history, trailing only Donald's season-ending marks from 1998-99 and 1999-2000. That mark won him the Les Bolstad Award, which is awarded to the Big Ten golfer with low season stroke average.

In each of the past two seasons, Wu has earned All-Big Ten honors. In 2016, he was selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team and, in 2017, he was named a unanimous First Team selection. Wu was also named a PING Second-Team All-American in 2017.

Wu's senior campaign is already off to a hot start, recording two top-five finishes in just five stroke play tournament appearances, including his third-career individual win at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate in October.
