STILLWATER, Okla. -- Northwestern put on an impressive performance against No. 9 Oklahoma State Friday night as the match came down to the final two singles contests. Nick Brookes and Ben Vandixhorn each won for the 'Cats as the Cowboys came away with a narrow victory.

Playing together for the first time this year, Chris Ephron and Antonioni Fasano secured a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to even it up after the hosts won at No. 1. That brought the evening's first point down to the match at No. 2, where Brookes and Michael Lorenzini were tied at five but dropped the final two games.

Victories at No. 6 and No. 1 singles gave Oklahoma State a 3-0 lead before the Wildcats fought their way back into the match. In the next singles matchup to finish, Brookes won in straight sets at No. 3 to improve to 5-1 in his first season of competition and put Northwestern on the board.

At No. 4 singles, Vandixhorn won his first set over No. 55 Mathiew Scaglia before the Oklahoma State sophomore took the second to send it to the final frame. In the third, Vandixhorn reeled off a 6-4 victory to upset the highest-ranked Cowboy and put NU within a point of the hosts.

No. 94 Artur Dubinski sealed it for Oklahoma State soon after, winning a 9-7 tiebreaker at No. 2 singles to notch a fourth team point for his squad.

Jason Seidman led in the third set over No. 125 Luke Hammond as his match at No. 5 singles went unfinished.

Chicago's Big Ten Team returns home to the Combe Tennis Center Sunday for the first time since Jan. 18. The 'Cats will host Notre Dame at 12 p.m. CT and Chicago State at 6 p.m. CT in the first doubleheader of the season.
