EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern split a home doubleheader at the Combe Tennis Center on Sunday, falling to No. 22 Notre Dame, 4-1, but sweeping Chicago State, 4-0.

The #B1GCats started off the day firing on all cylinders in the doubles game against the Fighting Irish. Nick Brookes and Michael Lorenzini collected their first ever win as partners at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. Dominik Stary and Ben Vandixhorn clinched the point with their fifth win in doubles, a 7-5 decision in a tightly contested set.

Despite the 1-0 lead, the Wildcats could not hold off Notre Dame in singles play. Ben Vandixhorn took his second set at No. 4 singles, while Nick Brookes played his opponent at No. 3 singles to a fierce tiebreak in the second set.

In a ranked matchup that ended unfinished, No. 92 Antonioni Fasano traded sets with No. 118 Guillermo Cabrera before the match ended a game into the third. Notre Dame picked up wins elsewhere, however, and took the match 5-1.

Northwestern ended the day with a clean 4-0 sweep of Chicago State that started with a rout in doubles. The Cougars only traveled five players, so the 'Cats only had two doubles matches.

Stary and Vandixhorn teamed up for the second time of the day and took home No. 1 doubles, 6-1, and evened their record as duo this season to 6-6. Moments later with the point already clinched, Fasano and Seidman completed their perfect 6-0 set at No. 2 doubles.

With no match at No. 6 singles, the Wildcats already had a 2-0 lead heading into the second stage of the contest. Vandixhorn took care of business playing up at No. 3 singles, and won 6-2, 6-0.

First year AJ Joshi sealed the result at No. 5 singles by a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline to make it 4-0. The 'Cats were on the precipice of more wins across the other courts, with Fasano up 6-0, 4-3 in No. 2 singles and Seidman up 6-2, 5-2 at No. 4 singles.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action in Evanston next week for another doubleheader at the Combe Tennis Center, featuring an 11 a.m. matchup against Louisville and a 5 p.m. contest against IUPUI. Free Papa John's will be provided to fans at the first match.
