Northwestern Drops Tight Battle To Wisconsin On Senior Night

2/22/2018 7:18:00 PM | Men's Basketball

ROSEMONT, Ill.— Northwestern celebrated seniors Scottie Lindsey, Bryant McIntosh and Gavin Skelly Thursday night at Allstate Arena, but fell in a close battle against Wisconsin, 70-64.

Lindsey and McIntosh each shined on Senior Night, finishing as Northwestern's top scorers on the night. Lindsey tied his season-high with 26 and McIntosh added 18. Lindsey made four of his first five shots and scored 15 of the team's 32 points in the first half. Together, the senior backcourt combined for 44 of the team's 64 points.

Northwestern trailed by six at half, but opened the second half strong to take a 43-42 lead. Wisconsin went back out in front by seven before the two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the final minutes with NU repeatedly pulling to within a single possession. With less than 30 second left, however, Wisconsin hit a three-pointer and two free throws to put the game out of reach.

Skelly did not miss a shot and finished with 4 points in his final home game while providing his typical hustle and energy defensively.

Junior center Dererk Pardon was the third-highest scorer for the #B1GCats, finishing with 10 points and shooting an impressive 6-for-7 at the free throw line. Freshman guard Anthony Gaines finished 3-for-3 from the field with 6 points while consistently demonstrating an ability to get to the rim.

The #B1GCats return to action Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at Carver Hawkeye Arena against Iowa.

Northwestern Notes vs. Wisconsin – Feb. 22, 2018
• All three of Northwestern's seniors – Scottie Lindsey, Bryant McIntosh and Gavin Skelly – were in the starting lineup in their final home game as Wildcats.
• McIntosh returned to the Northwestern lineup after missing previous two games due to injury. He finished with 18 points and 6 assists.
• McIntosh raised his career assist total to 693, moving him past Purdue's Bruce Parkinson for sixth place in Big Ten history. He is one assist behind Ohio State's Aaron Craft for fifth place.
• Lindsey scored 26 points in the game and moved past Kevin Coble into 19th place on Northwestern's all-time scoring list. Lindsey currently has 1,226 career points. The 26 points match his season high also achieved in the season-opener against Loyola (Md.) Nov. 10.
• Lindsey's 20-point game is his eighth of the season and the 13th of his career.

• Northwestern is assured of being the 10th seed for next week's Big Ten tournament in New York City. The Wildcats will play the No. 7 seed at 5:30 p.m. Central time Thursday.
