EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will host a second straight Sunday doubleheader this weekend as Louisville and IUPUI travel to Evanston. The first match is set for 11 a.m. CT, while the evening action will get underway at 5 p.m. Both contests will be held at Combe Tennis Center.
The 'Cats are coming off a doubleheader split with No. 22 Notre Dame and Chicago State last Sunday. After falling 4-1 in the early match, they swept Chicago State in a dominant 4-0 victory.
NU took the doubles point in both matches, with the duos of Nick Brookes/Michael Lorenzini and Dominik Stary/Ben Vandixhorn winning tight sets against the 22nd-ranked Fighting Irish. The hosts also got dominant wins from Vandixhorn and first year AJ Joshi in the evening singles competition.
The morning matchup with Louisville will be the thirteenth all-time for the two squads, with past victories split evenly at six apiece. NU has prevailed in each of the past two, including a 4-0 sweep of the 36th-ranked Cardinals in 2016 and, most recently, a 4-2 win in January of last year. Louisville currently holds a 7-3 mark on the campaign, taking down Georgia State in its last match.
IUPUI enters the weekend with a 2-4 record, falling to Iowa on Feb. 11 in its last appearance. The Jaguars will play three matches between Friday and Sunday before visiting Evanston for the second half of the doubleheader. Chicago's Big Ten Team has won all five previous meetings between the programs.
Sunday's matches will be the third and fourth in a stretch where the Wildcats will play eight out of nine contests at home, including five straight this month.
