Hot Start Sends Wildcats To Road Win Over Badgers

Pardon shoots perfect 8-for-8 from the field to pace NU
MADISON, Wis. — A red-hot start to the game along with a solid defensive performance helped propel the Northwestern to a 60-52 win over Wisconsin on Thursday night at the Kohl Center.
The #B1GCats (14-10, 5-6 Big Ten) never trailed during the game and held Wisconsin to just 52 points on the night, the fewest points NU has allowed in Big Ten play this season. Northwestern has now won back-to-back games at the Kohl Center and three of its last four games at Wisconsin's home venue.
Dererk Pardon posted a game-high 17 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the field, the most field goals made without a miss during his career. Meanwhile, Scottie Lindsey finished with 14 points and Vic Law added nine points along with a team-high 8 rebounds.
Bryant McIntosh finished the night with 10 points and a game-high four assists, moving his career total to 676, which passes Dee Brown for seventh all-time in Big Ten history. McIntosh now needs 14 assists to pass Bruce Parkinson for sixth all-time.
As a team, Northwestern shot 50.0-percent on 21-of-42 shooting. On the defensive end, the Wildcats stifled the Wisconsin all night as the Badgers shot just 32.8-percent (19-of-58) from the field.
The #B1GCats got off to a blazing start, converting on six of their first seven shots from the field to jump out to a 14-1 lead before the first media timeout.
Northwestern held an early 5-0 lead before proceeding to knock down seven consecutive shots to extend their lead to 18-1 with 14:29 to go in the half. The Wildcats' defense also started off on the right foot as they forced four turnovers in the first four minutes and held the Badgers' without a field goal for the first 6:22 of the game.
Wisconsin trimmed Northwestern's lead to eight with 11:23 remaining in the first half, but the 'Cats responded by hitting shots on four consecutive possessions and opening their lead back up to 28-13.
Northwestern finished the half shooting a blistering 66.7-percent (16-of-24) while making 57.1-percent (4-of-7) of its three point attempts and entered the half with a 37-26 lead. The Wildcats' defense forced eight Badger turnovers in the half and held Wisconsin to just 9-of-24 shooting from the field.
Pardon led all scorers with 11 points at the break, shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the field while Lindsey added 10 points of his own. Law finished just short of double figures with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting while adding a team-high six rebounds.
The scoring slowed down in the second half as both teams had shooting struggles throughout much of the period. As a team, the Badgers shot just 10-of-34 in the half, while the Wildcats cooled off significantly from their first half numbers, shooting 27.8-percent. Wisconsin cut the lead to as few as five points, however the Wildcats converted on 8-of-8 free throws during the last minute to put the game out of reach.

• Northwestern victory was its third against Wisconsin in Madison in the last four meetings at Kohl Center.
• The victory gives the Wildcats back-to-back wins in Madison for the first time since 1969 and 1970.
• This was the third straight road game for Northwestern. It's the first time the Wildcats have played three consecutive Big Ten road games since the 2002-03 season.
• Bryant McIntosh recorded four assists in the contest, raising his career total to 676. In the process, he moved past Illinois' Dee Brown for seventh place in Big Ten history in the category. McIntosh is one of only three players in Big Ten history to record at least 1,600 points and 675 assists in a career, joining Michigan's Gary Grant and Illinois' Demetri McCamey.
