Match Notes (PDF)

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern kicks off a three-match homestand Sunday when Cincinnati comes to town for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Martin Stadium.

The Wildcats (2-1-1) wrapped up a three-match road trip with a 2-2 draw at Loyola Marymount last Sunday. The 'Cats are ranked 21st by Top Drawer Soccer and receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' poll.

Cincinnati (3-0-1) is coming off a 1-0 win at home over Miami (Fla.) last weekend. The Bearcats have yet to travel for a match this season.

SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's match marks the fifth all-time meeting, and first since 2011, between Northwestern and Cincinnati. The Wildcats hold a 2-1-1 all-time advantage, with the wins coming in 1996 and 1998. Cincinnati drew with the 'Cats in 2010 and pulled out a 2-1 win in the last meeting on Aug. 26, 2011. The series is tied 1-1-0 in Evanston.

MOYNIHAN'S MAGIC
Head coach Michael Moynihan, now in his sixth season, has completely turned around the Wildcat program since arriving from Milwaukee for the 2012 season. Northwestern has won 51 matches since Moynihan's arrival and claimed the 2016 Big Ten championship after going 2-16-1 the year before he arrived. NU's season win total has increased in every year since 2013, culminating in last year's NCAA Round of 16 appearance.

LED BY THE GOALIE...
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Clem is, quite simply, one of the best goalies in the entire country. Clem earned Third Team All-America honors last season after leading the country in shutouts (17), goals against average (.290) and save percentage (.927). She has 39 career shutouts to her name and is the reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year.

...WITH AN IMPENETRABLE BACK LINE
Clem's number have been aided in large part by a stifling Northwestern back line. Led by Preseason All-Big Ten student-athletes Kayla Sharples and Hannah Davison, Northwestern has only allowed 11 goals in the past two seasons.
