LUTHERVILLE, Md. —
Northwestern men's golf posted the second-best score of the field in day two of the Big Ten Championships, moving the Wildcats into a second-place tie with Purdue.

Ryan Lumsden continued his hot play in the postseason. He shot a 1-under 69 for the second-straight day and moved up into sole possession of third place. The London, England, native was one of only nine competitors (out of 70 total) to shoot under par in the second round.

The highlight of the sophomore's round was a dazzling eagle on the par-four hole six. After driving to the front edge of the green, he connected on a lengthy, 45-foot putt to notch an eagle — his team-leading seventh of the season.

In all, three 'Cats scored under par on the sixth hole.

He trails Illinois' Dylan Meyer (-4) and Edoardo Lipparelli (-5) in individual competition. Lumsden and Lipparelli are the only two entrants to shoot under par in both rounds.

Illinois leads with a 12-under 548 strokes after the first 36 holes.

Conor Richardson also helped lead the way for the 'Cats, carding a 1-over 71. He is in a seventh-place tie entering the final round of competition after shooting an even 70 on day one.

His round was helped out by holing out a bunker shot for birdie on hole 17.

Lumsden and Richardson seek to become the first pair of Wildcats to finish in the top-10 of the Big Ten Championships since Sam Chien and Eric Chun finished second and 10th in 2012, respectively.

Lumsden seeks to record the highest finish for a Wildcat in Big Tens since Jack Perry finished in a third-place tie in 2014.

Everton Hawkins and Dylan Wu both shot 71 on Saturday.

Hawkins had a strong front nine, notching a pair of birdies on holes four and six. He is in a tied for 31st after the day.

Wu spent most of his round either right above or right below par. He ended the day rolling in an 18-foot birdie on the par-3 hole 15 and finished the day in a 25th-place tie.

Andrew Whalen shot an 8-over 78 and is tied for 62nd after the second round.

Third round tee times will begin at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday. The Wildcats are paired with Illinois and Purdue and tee times are as follows (all times CT): Andrew Whalen 7:45 a.m., Everton Hawkins 7:54 a.m., Dylan Wu 8:03 a.m., Conor Richardson 8:12 a.m., and Ryan Lumsden 8:21 a.m.
