Lumsden Leads Way in Day One of Big Ten Championships

LUTHERVILLE, Md. — Ryan Lumsden shot a 1-under 69 in the first round of the 2017 Big Ten Championships at Baltimore Country Club and sits in a fourth-place tie individually.
The Wildcats are also in fourth place as a squad, shooting a 6-over 286.
Northwestern came out of the gates with a handful of bogeys on the first few holes but the squad was able to rebound. The back nine was kinder to the Wildcats, as the four counters shot 2-under overall.
Conor Richardson shot an even-par 70, good for a ninth-place tie after the first 18 holes. The West Palm Beach, Florida, native notched par on the entire front nine and then hit two birdies in the first three holes after the turn. He finished with his fifth round of par or better in the 2016-17 campaign.
Lumsden's 69 marks his lowest output in a Big Ten Championships round and is his eighth round in the 60s this season. The London, England, native also led the squad in birdies with four in the first round of his second trip to Big Tens.
Back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13 brought him from 1-over to 1-under, the score he would end the day on.
Dylan Wu was the next-lowest scorer for the 'Cats, finishing with a 3-over 73. He hit a 30-foot putt for birdie on 18 to finish his round with an exclamation mark.
Everton Hawkins is tied for 38th after a 4-over round and Andrew Whalen is tied for 50th after shooting 76 (+6).
Tee times for round two begin at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday morning.
