WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Northwestern men's golf used a 9-under team performance in the final round to finish in third place at the Boilermaker Invitational at Kampen Course.
The 'Cats finished up the two-day tournament with 874 strokes (+10). Kent State won the event with an 1-over output (865).
Northwestern came back strongly after a slow start in the first round at a rough and windy course. In the second round on Saturday, the 'Cats put up the second-best team score (6-over) and then the 'Cats led all teams with their 9-under score in the last round (no team was better than 5-under).
Everton Hawkins led the way individually, carding a 4-under 68 — his second-lowest round of his collegiate career and his fourth round in the 60s. The Irvine, California, native picked up four birdies and did not log a bogey. He finished in a 13th place tie, his third top-15 finish of the season.
Dylan Wu and Andrew Whalen were the overall low scorers for the Wildcats, both finishing in ninth place ties with 2-over 218s.

Northwestern had a rebound performance in the final day by Conor Richardson, who shot a 3-under 69, tied for his best output of the season. He tied for a 26th place finish after shooting 76 and 77 on the first two days.
Rounding up the #B1GCats finishers were Ryan Lumsden and Sam Triplett. Lumsden shot 223 (76-74-73) and finished in a 30th place tie. Entered as an individual, Triplett tied for 51st but saw his best performance in the third round, shooting a 2-over 74.
The 'Cats will play next in the Big Ten Championship, April 28-30, at Baltimore Country Club in Maryland.
