EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern seeks a win over a ranked team for the second consecutive game when it hosts No. 23/24 Maryland on Wednesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
Limited tickets are still available online at NUsports.com or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
NU is seeking wins over ranked opponents in consecutive games for the first time since the 2008-09 season when it posted back-to-back victories over No. 18 Minnesota (Jan. 18) and No. 7 Michigan State (Jan. 21).
Northwestern is coming off a 66-59 win at then-No. 7/5 Wisconsin in Madison Sunday night. Bryant McIntosh paced the Wildcats with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and NU snapped the Badgers' 19-game home winning streak and string of eight straight wins overall.
McIntosh, a junior guard, became the second player in school history to surpass 500 career assists in Sunday's win at Wisconsin. Michael Thompson dished out a school-record 528 assists from 2008-11. McIntosh's 503 assists are the most of any non-senior in the nation.
Northwestern comes into Wednesday's contest looking to match the school record for victories in a season. The Wildcats have won 20 games in a season three times, including a school-record 20 in the regular season a year ago. Including postseason victories, NU also won 20 games in 2009-10 and again in 2010-11.
The 'Cats have only lost three games this season with all five of their regular starters in the lineup with those three losses coming by a combined 10 points.
Northwestern has dropped all three meetings with Maryland since the Terrapins joined the Big Ten, including a 62-56 overtime decision in College Park on Jan. 19 of last season.
Scouting Maryland
The Terrapins (21-4, 9-3) are coming off an 86-77 home win over Ohio State on Saturday behind 19 points from Anthony Cowan and 18 from fellow freshman Kevin Huerter. Junior guard Melo Trimble ranks sixth in the Big Ten and leads Maryland with an average of 16.6 points per game. Freshman Justin Jackson contributes 11.1 points per game while posting a .442 3-point field goal percentage to rank eighth in the league.
