Wildcats Wrap Up 10th Annual Windy City Classic
10/3/2017 2:25:00 PM | Women's Golf
HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – Senior Hannah Kim carded her second-straight 72 on Tuesday to lead Northwestern in the third round of the tenth annual Windy City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Northmoor Country Club (Par-71; 6200 yards). Kim and sophomore Brooke Riley turned in Top-25 results for the Wildcats among an outstanding field, while sophomore Louise McCulloch recorded a final round 71 competing as an individual.
Windy City Collegiate Classic RESULTS
One mile west of Lake Michigan, Chicago's north shore offered more challenging conditions for Tuesday's final round than it presented on day one of competition. Despite temperatures in the low 70's, winds gusted for most of the day at more than 20mph, and an already rigorous layout got even more difficult for the 81 student-athletes on the course. Scores on Tuesday were more than a stroke higher, on average, than either Round 1 or 2. Not a single team finished Round 3 under par, and only three competitors signed a scorecard in the red for the day.
Kim birdied No. 3, No. 6 and No. 18 to wrap up the final Windy City of her college career with a 72. Riley's final round 75 polished off a 5-over 226, good for a share of 18th, the top spot on the leaderboard for the Wildcats. Her classmate, McCulloch, signed the best scorecard of her college career, with birdies on Nos. 13, 14 and 18 highlighting an even-par 71.
Arizona State, the reigning NCAA champion, overcame an eight-stroke deficit to earn the team title with a 1-over 853, trailed by Oklahoma State (856) and Michigan State (866). The Wildcats finished in ninth (879).
The Cowboys' Maddie McCrary birdied the final hole of the day to take home individual medalist honors at 6-under for the event, followed by Arizona State's Linnea Strom (-5) and Michigan State's Sarah Burnham and Paz Marfa (-4).
The No. 6 Wildcats will head west later this month for the penultimate event of their fall slate. Northwestern will take on an outstanding field at the 2017 Stanford Intercollegiate from Oct. 16-18, at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California. Fourteen teams will participate on the Robert Trent Jones Jr. layout, one of the host courses for the PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am from 1991-2009, and site of the 1991 NCAA Men's Championships. A $10 million course renovation was completed in 2014.
