EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern men's soccer team plays their final home game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 24, against Loyola at 4 p.m. CT. The contest at Martin Stadium will air on BTNPlus on BTN2GO.
With a win versus Loyola, Northwestern would complete a sweep of Chicago-area teams. Earlier in the season, the Wildcats fought a tightly contested match against UIC, coming out with a 1-0 win off of a 87th minute header from sophomore Sean Lynch. To nab their second Chicagoland victory, Northwestern topped DePaul, 2-0, with second-half goals from junior Camden Buescher and sophomore Mac Mazzola.
Northwestern boasts a 5-10-0 record overall this season, with a Big Ten Conference mark of 1-6-0. Before their weekend loss to Michigan State, the Wildcats were in the midst of a three-match winning streak.
Mac Mazzola and Tommy Katsiyiannis lead Chicago's Big Ten Team with three goals each. Camden Buescher has a team-best four assists on the campaign. Goalkeeper Robbie White has recorded 36 saves on the season, the seventh highest total in the Big Ten, despite having played in just six games. Were he qualified, his six saves per game would lead the conference by 0.9 saves per game, and his .738 save percentage would be fifth-best in the conference.
Northwestern posted a 3-0 win over Rutgers last Sunday. Katsiyiannis scored a pair of goals, while Mazzola chipped in another to help Northwestern top the Scarlet Nights. White earned the start in net and posted seven saves, his second highest of the season, en route to the third shutout of his career.
On Friday the Wildcats were able to hold No. 9 Michigan State in check for nearly 80 minutes, but the Spartans scored a pair of late goals to defeat the Wildcats, 2-0, on Senior Night at Martin Stadium.
Loyola comes into the match riding a five-game unbeaten streak and owns a 6-5-3 overall mark on the campaign. The Ramblers are currently in fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 2-3-1 conference record, and sit just two points out of third. Loyola has ridden their strong defense this season, allowing just 15 goals in 14 matches.
Northwestern is 12-2-1 against Loyola dating back to the 2001 season, including a penalty-kick victory in the NCAA tournament in 2008.
After playing Loyola, Northwestern finishes out their Big Ten Conference run against Penn State on Oct. 29, playing in University Park, Pa. at 11 a.m. CT.
