EVANSTON, Ill. -- Ninth-ranked Northwestern looks to keep pace in the Big Ten race as it travels to No. 22 Iowa at 3 p.m. Friday. The Wildcats also step outside league play Sunday, hosting No. 24 UMass at 11 a.m.

Northwestern (10-4, 4-1 B1G) enters play this weekend one game behind Michigan for first place in the Big Ten standings. The Wildcats and the Wolverines will square off in Ann Arbor next Friday.

NU is red-hot, having won eight of its last nine contests. The 'Cats are coming off a dominant weekend that saw them post a 4-1 win over Indiana on Friday before trouncing Ball State 6-0 on Sunday.

Puck Pentenga, who recorded a goal and three assists in the first half alone in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, ranks atop the Big Ten with 13 assists this season. Pentenga's 23 points lead the Wildcats and rank fifth in the conference.

Five different Northwestern players have tallied at least five goals, paced by Pascale Massey who leads the team with seven. Pentenga, Saar de Breij, Kirsten Mansfield and Eva van Agt have contributed five goals apiece.

In goal, Annie Kalfas sports a 1.98 goals-against average with a .774 save percentage.

Iowa and UMass represent the ninth and 10th ranked teams that Northwestern has faced this season. The Wildcats are 4-4 against ranked opponents this season, with three of the four losses coming by a single goal. The challenging schedule has helped NU enter play this week at No. 8 in the RPI.

The Hawkeyes (5-8, 1-3 B1G) will be playing just their second match in a two-week span after most recently falling 4-2 at Duke on Sunday. Iowa's lone Big Ten win to date was a 4-3 home victory over Indiana Sept. 29. Katie Birch leads the team and ranks second in the Big Ten with 12 goals while Madeleine Murphy has contributed seven. Katie Jones has played the entire season in goal for Iowa and has a 2.15 goals-against average with a .678 save percentage. Iowa won last year's matchup with NU 2-1 in overtime in Evanston Oct. 14.

The Minutewomen bring a 10-4 record into their contest at Saint Louis on Friday prior to coming to Evanston. It's last time out, UMass earned a 1-0 win at Providence. Sarah Hawkshaw leads the team with eight goals and 18 points while Lucy Cooper has contributed five goals and seven assists for 17 points. Emily Hazard sports a 1.60 goals-against average with a .722 save percentage in goal. Northwestern rolled to a 5-0 win over UMass in last year's meeting Aug. 28 in Durham, New Hampshire.
