
Northwestern Claims Eight First-Place Finishes at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Northwestern claimed eight first-place finishes in a dual meet against Eastern Michigan, but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell, 153-141, in their season opener Wednesday afternoon.
Will Hofstadter led the way for Northwestern by placing first in a pair of individual events (100 breast, 200 breast) and swimming a leg in two relays (200 medley, 200 free) where the 'Cats took the top spot.
Hofstadter, Jack Thorne, Arjun Sharma and Almog Olshtein got the Wildcats off on the right foot in the 200 medley relay when the group took first with a time of 1:31.99. Northwestern's success in relays continued when Hofstader and Olshtein teamed up with Keegan Bundy and Alex Snarski to win the 200 free relay in 1:24.35.
Snarski, Olshtein and Bundy went on to finish first, second and third in the 50 free. Snarski paced the trio with a time of 21.35, while Olshtein and Bundy came in at 21.36 and 21.40, respectively.
The Wildcats received a sweep in the 1000 free when first years DJ Hwang and Jeffrey Durmer placed 1-2 in 9:29.17 and 9:39.74, respectively. Jonathan Blansfield took third and grabbed three points for the #B1GCats with a time of 9:50.16.
First year Liam Gately earned a pair of victories in his collegiate debut by winning the 200 free in 1:40.10 and the 500 free in 4:39.75. Hwang took second in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.62.
Northwestern will return to action on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21, when Georgia and Georgia Tech visit the Norris Aquatics Center.
