EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern faces yet another road test Sunday when it travels to Columbus to face Ohio State at Value City Arena. Tip time is set for noon Central.
Northwestern is playing its fifth road game among its first seven games of the Big Ten season. The Wildcats enter Sunday's game with a 3-1 road record in league play thus far. Following Sunday's contest, NU will level its slate by playing five of its next seven games at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Wildcats are coming off a dominant 89-54 home win over Iowa last Sunday, Jan. 15. Scottie Lindsey posted 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals en route to being named Big Ten Player of the Week. Bryant McIntosh contributed a double-double (20 points, 10 assists) as Northwestern posted its largest victory ever against Iowa. His 20-point, 10-assist game vs. Iowa Jan. 15 marked just the second time in school history that an NU player reached those standards in a contest, joining Evan Eschmeyer (1/13/99 at Indiana). The 'Cats shot a season-best 59.7 percent from the field and finished the game on a 33-7 run over the final 13 minutes.
Lindsey has scored in double figures in all 19 games this season. It's the most consecutive games with 10+ points for a Northwestern player since John Shurna compiled 22 in a row during the 2011-12 campaign. It's the most consecutive to start a season since Evan Eschmeyer opened the 1998-99 season with 24 straight.
Northwestern is seeking its second four-game Big Ten winning streak in the last three seasons. The Wildcats last won four straight league games from Feb. 15-25, 2015.
The Wildcats are limiting their opponents to 38.4 percent shooting from the field this season, the 11th-best mark in the nation. Northwestern's foes shot 40.1 percent during the 2015-16 season, the school's best mark since the 1998-99 season. The Wildcats have only allowed two opponents to score more than 70 points in a game this season: Eastern Washington (72), Penn State (77).
The Wildcats two Ohio natives on its roster: sophomore center Dererk Pardon (Cleveland/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) and junior forward Gavin Skelly (Westlake/Westlake HS).
Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes (12-7, 2-4) have won their last two games since starting their Big Ten season with four straight losses. Ohio State got a layup from Marc Loving with 0.6 seconds remaining to beat Nebraska, 67-66, Thursday night in Lincoln. Loving paced OSU with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the contest. Jae'Sean Tate leads five Buckeyes averaging in double figures at 14.1 points per game while Trevor Thompson is third in the Big Ten in rebounding (9.0 pg), fourth in blocked shots (1.9 pg) and seventh in field goal percentage (.586).
