Northwestern Hosts #21 Notre Dame on Senior Day

EVANSTON, Ill. –
The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams both host Notre Dame in a home dual meet Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Norris Aquatic Center at 1 p.m. CT

Saturday is Senior Day for the Wildcats. Eight members of the men's program will be recognized before the meet, including: Charlie Cole, Andrew Cramer, Andy Jovanovic, Jonathan Lieberman, Jack Morris, Stephen Shull, Joao Steiner and Jordan Wilimovsky. The women's program will honor 10 seniors including: Lauren Abruzzo, Katie Branch, Jackie Doyle, Lacey Locke, Georgie Pettibone, Melissa Postoll, Megan Purdy, Lacey Smith, Ellen Stello and Annika Winsnes.
 
Notre Dame's men's program is ranked No. 21 in the country, while the women's programs is receiving three votes in the CSCAA Coaches' Poll. Both teams will be swimming competitively for the third day in a row after a tri-dual meet Thursday and Friday against Iowa and Illinois in South Bend.
 
Last season, both Northwestern squads narrowly fell to the Fighting Irish, the men, 166-132, and the women, 156.5-143.5.
 
The Wildcats are kicking off 2017 after strong showings their last time out at the TYR Invitational in November. The men's team dramatically won the invitational by half a point over Big Ten foes Michigan State and captured its first TYR Invite win since 2013. The women dominated their competition and finished first with more than 300 points between them and second place Grand Canyon.
 
The men's team posted four NCAA 'B' cut times at the TYR invitational including Wilimovsky (400 IM, 1,650 free), Charlie Cole (200 free) and Will Hofstadter (100 breast). Wilimovky swam the 1,650 free in a pool-record time of 14:48.94. During the event, Wilimovsky broke a 10-year pool record with a 1,000 split of 8:55.86. His final time was an NCAA 'B' cut and the fastest time in the NCAA so far this season.
 
Five swimmers on the women's team registered NCAA 'B' cut times at the TYR Invitational including Valerie Gruest Slowing (500 free, 1000 free, 1,650 free, 200 fly), Melissa Postoll (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM), Ellen Stello (200 free, 400 IM). Annika Wisnes (100 free), and Peyton Greenberg (200 breast).
 
Slowing toppled record after record during the invitational with school and pool records in the 500 free (4:40.58), the 1,650 free (16:01.58), and her 1,000 split time (9:42.71) and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Postoll set a pool-record time in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:14.71 and a school-record time of 2:06.07 in the 200 IM.
