
Wildcats Drop Saturday Doubleheader

DAYTON, Ohio – Northwestern dropped both matches of a doubleheader to close out the Dayton Invitational on Saturday.
Northwestern took a Dayton team that is receiving votes in the lastest AVCA Coaches Poll to the wire on its home court, falling in five sets. The 'Cats won the first and fourth sets, the former after trailing 8-1 to start the match before roaring back for a 25-19 decision.
Symone Abbott slammed down 24 kills in the match, one shy of her career high. She recorded her first double-double of the year by adding on 12 digs. Taylor Tashima also notched a double-double with 46 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Allie Lindroth made her collegiate debut and hit .375 with four kills to go along with three digs and a block.
The Wildcats outhit Dayton in the match, holding the Flyers to just .180. NU held each of its first five opponents this season to under .200 hitting.
Northwestern was unable to find a rhythm in the second match vs. Xavier, having to step back on the court almost immediately after its match against Dayton ended. The Musketeers were able to come away with a sweep, holding the 'Cats to .146 hitting.
Tashima narrowly missed out on her second double-double of the day, tallying 19 assists and nine digs. Redshirt freshman Kaitlin Tavarez made her collegiate debut as well on Saturday, and chipped in four assists and four digs against Xavier to go along with six digs and an assist in the earlier match.
Chicago's Big Ten Team next heads to Nashville, Tenn. for the Lipscomb Invitational next weekend where it will face Virginia Tech, Lipscomb and Ole Miss.
