EVANSTON, Ill. — Four former Northwestern golfers, including Jess Daley '00, Brian Payne '96, Chris Thayer '02 and Elizabeth Gilley-Payne '98, have qualified for the 2016 United States Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championships.

The men's championship will be held at Stonewall Links in Elverson, Pa., on Sept. 10-15, while women's championship will take place at The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa., on the same dates.

The USGA Mid-Amateur Championship is the national championship for amateurs over the age of 25 with handicaps not exceeding 3.4 for the men and 9.4 for the women.

The winning golfer from the men's side will receive an invitation to play in the 2017 Masters Golf Tournament.

On the men's side, Payne posted a 70 in the Flourtown, Pa., to qualify for the event, while Thayer shot 71 in Colorado Spring, Colo., to make the field. Thayer also played in the 2014 USGA Amateur Championship.

Daley was exempt from having to qualify because he advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2015 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship.

Gilley-Payne will represent Northwestern in the women's championship after shooting a 77 at Shoreacres on Wednesday, Aug. 24. She has qualified for the previous two USGA Women's Four Ball Championships.

Fox Sports 1 will televise the final two days (Sept. 14-15) of the men's championship.
