EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern football earned a record 3.24 team grade point average during the University's winter quarter, with a record 80 Wildcats earning a GPA of 3.0 or better.

"The commitment our young men have displayed in the classroom, at one of the nation's elite universities, is remarkable," said Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald. "Following a ten-win season on the football field, this academic year has been a statement of what our program is all about. The credit for that goes to our student-athletes and their relentless pursuit of excellence."

This marks the 17th-consecutive quarter in which at least 50 members of the football team eclipsed a 3.0. The quarter featured eight different Wildcats posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"The results in the classroom continue to impress," Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips said. "Our student-athletes are commmitted to making an impact academically, socially and athletically. We are so proud of their achievements."

Northwestern opens the 2016 football season on Saturday, September 3, when the Wildcats welcome the Western Michigan Broncos to Ryan Field. Season tickets are on-sale now by visiting NUSports.com or calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
