EVANSTON, Ill. -- Women's College World Series reunion weekend has arrived at Sharon J. Drysdale Field! Northwestern will welcome back all five of its WCWS squads during its April 15-17 series against Nebraska. The 1984, 1985 and 1986 teams along with the 2006 and 2007 units will celebrate all weekend long on the 30th anniversary of the '86 series and the 10th anniversary of the Wildcats' second-place finish in 2006, the best in program history.
Among all of the pioneering Wildcats of the 1980s returning to Evanston is their coach, Sharon J. Drysdale, whose namesake field will host this weekend's gathering.

First pitch Friday is at 4 p.m. against Nebraska followed by a private dinner and banquet for the returning student-athletes and their families.
Saturday marks the big party with an 11 a.m. tailgate and pre-game ceremonies honoring all of those in attendance. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy tailgates of their own before packing the park prior to the 1 p.m. first pitch.
The series finale Sunday will start at noon.
Fans will receive free giveaways all weekend long, as well. Friday features a sunglasses giveaway while Saturday is a "Purple Out" sponsored by the Northwestern N Club. Sunday fans will get a free souvenir cup filled to the brim with popcorn.
Led by the arm of All-America phenom Lisa Ishikawa, Northwestern's softball program was one of the nation's finest in the mid 1980s, winning four-straight Big Ten championships and reaching three-straight World Series fields. All-Big Ten honorees like Krista Dempsey, Sue Koopman, Karen Lemke, Lynna Hallick and Lisa Koser formed the core of the team behind Ishikawa.
Twenty years later, a new core of 'Cats featuring All-Big Ten winners Courtnay Foster, Eileen Canney, Garland Cooper, Jamie Dotson, Katie Logan, Lauren Delaney, Nicole Pauly, Jessica Rigas and Tammy Williams brought the #B1GCats back to the WCWS.
NU's opponent on the field this weekend is Nebraska, a program with a WCWS history of its own; in fact, both teams reached the semifinals of the 1984 World Series. This year's version of the Huskers is 25-13 against a schedule just as brutal as NU's always is. Nebraska is coming off a three-game set with then-No. 1 Michigan in Lincoln where it took the first game off the Wolverines—exactly what Northwestern did in Ann Arbor to start Big Ten play.
The Wildcats are riding a six-game wininng streak into the weekend that began with a 10-2 (5) run-rule victory over then-No. 21 Minnesota before NU swept Iowa and manufactured two come-from-behind, seventh-inning rallies to take both ends of a doubleheader against Illinois Wednesday in Urbana.
