EVANSTON, Ill. -- The 2016 season has finally arrived at Sharon J. Drysdale Field, and the Wildcats' home digs have some new amenities to show off when Northwestern hosts No. 21 Minnesota to kick off a month-long homestand in Evanston. The series schedule has been shifted due to current precipitation forecasts for the weekend! Stay tuned to this page for any further updates each day.

The centerpiece of the improvements is a brand new LED scoreboard mounted to the wall of McGaw Hall beyond left field, enhancing the game day fun with graphics and videos. Fresh signage commemorating Northwestern's history of success adorns the outfield wall, right-field bleachers and the staircase "tubes" in left and center.

The Wildcats welcome the Gophers to their housewarming party beginning at 3 p.m. CT Friday, April 1, before noon CT first pitches on Saturday and Sunday. The finale Sunday features the inaugural "Eat, Train, Softball" event presented with Northwestern Nutrition and Sports Performance. Learn from the best about how to fuel and prepare for softball games in the current season or for the summer ahead. Sign up here for the Eat, Train, Softball Event!

NOTE: Friday's game time has shifted up one hour to 3 p.m. CT from the originally publicized 4 p.m. CT time. Saturday's game has been moved to Sunday, when the two teams will play an 11 a.m. CT doubleheader.

Northwestern is in the midst of a seven-game stretch against teams currently ranked in the top-25 polls; NU dropped a contest at South Florida on March 22 before taking a game off No. 2 Michigan during its conference-opening series last weekend in Ann Arbor. Minnesota swept three games at Purdue to begin its Big Ten slate.

Last Friday, the Wildcats took a wild 13-12 decision off of the Wolverines, the current No. 1 team in the RPI rankings. Northwestern fell behind, 6-0, after three innings before storming back to take a 13-7 lead over the home squad. Though Michigan came roaring back in the seventh, a diving catch in right field and a stone-cold closer performance from Nicole Bond in the circle helped preserve the victory for freshman Kenzie Ellis, who battled her way through 5.2 innings of relief.

Northwestern's powerful offense, which experience a bit of an outage during a Spring Break swing through Florida, came back in a big way in Ann Arbor. Amy Letourneau, Andrea Filler and Alcy Bush (2) all had home runs in the series while senior Fran Strub laced a pair of doubles and sophomore Brooke Marquez batted .500 with a double against the Wolverines' staff.

This weekend marks the first of four-straight for NU in Evanston. Iowa comes to town April 8-10 followed by Nebraska April 15-17, when Northwestern will welcome back all five of its Women's College World Series teams for a massive reunion. Senior Weekend then is April 22-24 against Michigan State.
