EVANSTON, Ill. -- One week after playing in the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic near Palm Springs, Northwestern heads back to the West Coast for another nationally reknowned tournament—the Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton.

The Garman annually attracts top programs to its field, giving the Wildcats another great preconference slate of games. The action begins with a re-match against No. 22 Fresno State Friday after the Bulldogs defeated the #B1GCats in extra innings last weekend at the Nutter. NU then takes on Long Beach State later Friday before facing San Jose State and the host Titans on Saturday. Sunday's game features a tilt with No. 19 Arizona State.

Northwestern traditionally travels to Fullerton each season for a smaller tournament hosted by the Titans, but it has never been able to attend the Judi Garman Classic due to its academic calendar surrounding winter quarter finals. With the calendar falling favorably in 2016, NU is among the field.

The Wildcats return to California with confidence following a weekend of strong play across the board. Though its final record was 2-3, Northwestern held leads in all five of its games and was ahead in the seventh inning against a trio of top-20 opponents. No. 8 Georgia and the aforementioned Fresno State Bulldogs each came back in the final inning against the Wildcats during a tough Saturday on the field, but the squad quickly made adjustments and came out on Sunday to slam the door shut with five late-inning runs in a 7-2 victory over No. 11 UCLA.

Senior Amy Letourneau earned the complete-game win in the circle against UCLA while having a great weekend at the plate, as well. She recorded three home runs overall, hitting two of them during a school single-game record eight RBI performance in a run-rule win against New Mexico State. Letourneau hit .444 at the Nutter, a team-best mark matched by junior Krista Williams and freshman Morgan Nelson. Williams is quietly having a tremendous start to the year, making several outstanding defensive plays in the outfield while raising her batting average up to .381 through 14 games.
