EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following a week off for winter quarter finals, Northwestern is headed to Clearwater, Fla., for SPRING BREAK 2016! The Wildcats will play five games in the Clearwater Spring Break Tournament hosted at the Eddie C. Moore Complex before sticking around to face South Florida in a single game on Tuesday, March 22.

The Wildcats open Spring Break with a 3:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. ET doubleheader Friday against Quinnipiac and LIU Brooklyn. Northwestern continues Saturday with a pair of opponents currently trending toward the top-50 of the NCAA RPI: Lehigh and Kent State. That doubleheader starts at 8:15 a.m. CT/9:15 a.m. ET. NU then concludes the tournament schedule at 10:15 a.m. CT/11:15 a.m. ET Sunday versus Georgia Tech.

The Clearwater area has become a popular destination for Northwestern and head coach Kate Drohan of late; before skipping 2015 in favor of a New York City Spring Break, NU played an event at the Eddie C. Moore complex in each of the previous three seasons. Northwestern went 4-1 in its 2013 and 2014 appearances, with the sisters Drohan picking up career win No. 400 in a victory over Massachusetts in 2013. The Drohans enter this weekend 13 victories shy of No. 500.

Northwestern enters its final week of nonconference play on a mission after enduring a rough California swing to the schedule. The Wildcats went 2-3 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic despite playing quite well, holding seventh-inning leads in eventual losses to No. 8 Georgia and No. 20 Fresno State before slamming the door with an emphatic 7-2 victory against No. 11 UCLA. NU then went to the Judi Garman Classic and came away winless although it saw improved pitching and defense in the latter half of the tournament.

Following six days in Florida, Northwestern flies to Ann Arbor, Mich., to open the Big Ten schedule March 26-28 at No. 2 Michigan with a three-game set.
