LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats (2-2) split their season-opening series against Nevada last weekend in Mesa, Ariz. Northwestern's, 4-2, victory in last Friday's lidlifter was the first for new head coach Spencer Allen.

PROPS TO THE PEN
Sophomore Tommy Bordignon (1-0, ERA) was the highlight in game two last weekend. The righty came out of the bullpen in the second inning and threw 4.1 innings of no-hit baseball to help lead the Wildcats to their second straight win. Bordignon racked up a career-high six strikeouts in the victory.

Also getting the call from the pen were Pete Hofman and Matt Hopfner, who each recorded a save against Nevada. Senior Jake Stolley made two appearances last weekend, throwing 4.2 innings and posting a 1.93 ERA.

Fifteen Northwestern pitchers saw action in the opening series.

AT THE PLATE
Offensively, Matt Hopfner and Jack Claeys each went 5-for-11 (.455) in three games played. Hopfner was 3-for-4 at the plate in Friday evening's nightcap, finishing the game a home run shy of the cycle. Claeys capped the weekend on Sunday with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate, hitting a pair of doubles and driving in two runs.

Zach Jones and Connor Lind lead the team with four runs batted in.

THE OPPONENT
Pacific (0-4) opened up the season on the road with four games against Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and was swept in the series. The Tigers gave up runs in the first inning of three of the four games.

Louis Mejia and Gio Brusa lead Pacific with six hits apiece. Brusa collected a hit in all four games for the Tigers last weekend. Danny Mayer, who enters the series hitting .222, ended the weekend vs. Cal Poly with three extra-base hits and he leads the team in that category.

SERIES HISTORY
Northwestern and Pacific will meet for the first time since 2004. The Tigers hold a 3-1 advantage in the series.
