Northwestern Splits Series with Nevada

The Wildcats (2-2) posted 10 hits in the contest, while Nevada (2-2) had 14 batters reach base off hits. Zach Wilkins went 5.1 innings and struck out eight to earn the win. Grant Peikert took the loss for Northwestern.
Jack Claeys was a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish on the afternoon, hitting a pair of doubles and driving two runs in for Northwestern. Zach Jones was the only other Wildcat with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run driven in.
Northwestern wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. Jones got the first inning started with a base shot and Joe Hoscheit was hit by a pitch to put runners on base for Claeys, who ripped a ball into the right-center gap and scored both Wildcats.
Connor Lind continued the scoring for Northwestern in the frame with a single that scored Claeys from second to give the Wildcats a 3-0 cushion.
Nevada answered in the top of the second with two runs on a single by Brandon Evans to cut into the Wildcats lead, 3-2. In the bottom half of the inning, RJ Watters came around to score to make it 4-2 on Jones' double to right center.
The Wolf Pack scored eight-unanswered runs over a five-inning stretch to build a 10-4 lead in the eighth inning. Three Nevada players each tallied three hits in the game, including TJ Friedl who went 3-for-4 and finished a double short of the cycle.
Claeys hit his second double of the game in the eighth inning and Dan Kubiuk came in to pinch run. Willie Bourbon's single later in the frame brought home Kubiuk.
A pair of errors in the bottom of the ninth inning led to Jack Dunn coming across home plate, but that was the last run the Wildcats would get on the afternoon.
Northwestern will be back in action next weekend (Feb. 26-28) for a four-game series in Stockton, Calif., against Pacific.
