EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern travels to North Carolina this weekend for the inaugural playing of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The event is taking place at multiple ACC campuses, with UNC, NU, Illinois and Boston College converging on Chapel Hill.
NU will play both Boston College and North Carolina twice during the weekend, beginning at 4 p.m. CT/5 p.m. ET Friday, Feb. 19, with a game against the Tar Heels. On Saturday, NU plays Boston College at 9:30 a.m. CT/10:30 a.m. ET and UNC again at 2:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. ET. Sunday features a single game for the Wildcats against the Eagles at 9 a.m. CT/10 a.m. ET. All games will be played at North Carolina's Anderson Stadium.
The Wildcats are coming off a 3-2 start to the season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., where the squad broke loose for 50 runs across their five games (10.0 runs per game). Included in that total were run-rule wins over UC Riverside and Virginia, while NU's two losses came against No. 8 Tennessee and No. 6 Oregon, both Women's College World Series participants from a year ago.
Senior Andrea Filler continued her absolute domination of the Kajikawa, a tournament in which she started her Northwestern career in 2014 by reaching base in 11-consecutive plate appearances. This year, she batted .563 with six extra-base hits including three home runs, driving in 13 runs across the five games (2.6 per game). Sophomore Sammy Nettling batted .500 and knocked in seven in the tournament and Amy Letourneau slugged .714 with five RBIs of her own. Coming off the bench, Brianna LeBeau was a robust 3-for-4 in pinch hit duties, ripping a pair of two-run singles and a one-run single to collect five RBIs in just four total pinch-hit at-bats.
In the circle, all five Wildcats pitchers threw at least an inning at the tournament. Letourneau picked up a pair of wins while senior Kristen Wood had the other, going 4.0 innings and striking out seven against Virginia. Freshmen Kaley Winegarner and Kenzie Ellis each had strong debuts; Winegarner tosses 2.2 combined innings of scoreless relief against UC Riverside and No. 8 Tennessee in her first-ever collegiate action while Ellis entered a bases-loaded, two-out situation in relief versus No. 6 Oregon and escaped with a strikeout against her very first collegiate batter faced. She would earn 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in that game.

Forty-six Northwestern games in 2016 will feature live streaming coverage across multiple platforms, giving fans the ability to follow the Wildcats closer than ever before.
