EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern goes for its second double-figure winning streak in as many seasons Friday when it travels to Michigan State. Tip time is set for 5 p.m. Central.
A win on Friday would give the Wildcats their third winning streak of 10 or more games in school history. NU won 10 in a row last year and a school-record 13 in a row from 1930-31.
NU has won its last 19 games in the month of December. The 'Cats won their last four December games in 2014 before going 8-0 in the month last year and 7-0 so far this year.
The Wildcats opened up their Big Ten season with an 87-77 win at Penn State on Tuesday. Scottie Lindsey paced Northwestern with a career-high 31 points while Vic Law posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Northwestern is opening its conference season by playing four of its first five games on the road. This is the first time since the 1955-56 season that the Wildcats are opening their Big Ten season with four of their first five league games away from Evanston.
Junior guard Bryant McIntosh comes into Friday's game with 442 career assists, 10 shy of matching current NU assistant coach Pat Baldwin for second place in school history.
Michigan State won the only meeting between the teams in Evanston a year ago. Even though Northwestern has dropped its last five contests in East Lansing, two of those matchups went to overtime, including the most recent game between the teams two years ago.
Scouting Michigan State
The Spartans (9-5, 1-0) rallied back from a 15-point deficit to win their Big Ten opener 75-74 in overtime at Minnesota on Tuesday. Nick Ward paced Michigan State with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Alvin Ellis III contributed 20 points off the bench. Ward is averaging 13.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 61.3 percent from the field. MSU ranks second in the Big Ten and eighth nationally with an average of 18.7 assists per game.
