EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern plays its second game during a stretch of five games over a 12-day span Wednesday when it hosts local foe Chicago State at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
It is the final game of a season-long five-game homestand for NU. The Wildcats are in the midst of playing eight straight games in the Chicagoland area to conclude nonconference play.
The Wildcats are coming off a resounding 83-49 victory over New Orleans on Sunday. NU led 43-22 at the break before starting the second half on a 22-2 run. Nathan Taphorn paced the victors with career highs of 18 points and 6 rebounds. Northwestern forced a season-high 21 turnovers in the contest.
Northwestern has won its last 18 nonconference home games dating back to the 2014-15 season.
Redshirt senior forward Sanjay Lumpkin is slated to start the 100th game of his career Wednesday. The milestone would leave him just five starts shy of cracking the top 10 in school history in the category.
Northwestern has won all 10 previous matchups with Chicago State, including nine in Evanston. The Wildcats rolled to a 77-35 victory over the Cougars in the most recent matchup Dec. 13, 2015. Tre Demps led NU with 23 points and 9 rebounds and the 'Cats held Chicago State to 25 percent shooting from the field, including 1-of-19 from 3-point range.
