EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern continues its rivalry with local rival DePaul on Saturday when the teams square off at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
Northwestern (5-2) is playing its fifth game against a major conference opponent over a six-game span.
Since the 1974-75 season, the top performer in the contest between Northwestern and DePaul has been recognized as the Waldo Fisher-Frank McGrath Most Valuable Player. The award is named for former basketball coaches and administrators from both schools. Northwestern won last year's meeting 78-70 in overtime Dec. 19, 2015 in Rosemont. Tre Demps paced the Wildcats with 18 points and was named the game's MVP.
NU and DePaul have split their last 16 meetings going back to the 1986-87 season.
The Wildcats are coming off a 65-58 home win over Wake Forest in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Monday. Bryant McIntosh scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to pace Northwestern. NU held the Demon Deacons to 31.1 percent shooting from the field and forced 19 Wake Forest turnovers.
NU's only two losses this season have come by a combined six points to two teams that are still undefeated entering play Saturday. The 'Cats fell on a buzzer-beater, 70-68, at No. 18 Butler (7-0) and lost 70-66 to Notre Dame (7-0) on a neutral court in Brooklyn in the championship game of the Legends Classic.
