EVANSTON, Ill. —
A second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay, the final event of the 2016 TYR Invitational, gave the Northwestern men's swimming and diving team the points it needed to take the top spot at its annual home meet.

The Wildcats took the top spot with 979 points, while Big Ten Conference-foe Michigan State came in second with 978.5 points and Grand Canyon took third with 829.5 points. Saint Louis (552.5), UIC (340), Truman State (274.5) and Air Force (67) rounded out the rest of the field.

Jordan Wilimovsky's performance in the 1,650 free highlighted the day for the Wildcats in the pool. The Malibu, California, native swam the event in a pool-record time of 14:48.94. During the event, Wilimovsky broke a 10-year pool record with a 1,000 split of 8:55.86. His final time was an NCAA 'B' cut and the fastest time in the NCAA so far this season.

Ryan Tate picked up 17 points for the 'Cats in the 50 fly by placing second in the championship final with a time of 21.85, while Tyler Lis placed third overall in the 200 back when he touched the wall in 1:47.27. Lis' time was a team-best this season.

Justin Hanson closed out the individual swimming portion of the session by claiming second in the 200 fly final with a time of 1:49.30.

Northwestern swept the diving portion of Sunday with Andrew Cramer, Damian Becker and Ben Maliato taking first, second and third, in the platform competition, respectively. Cramer scored a 285.20 to win the event.

On the weekend, Northwestern swimmers posted four NCAA 'B' Cut times, including Wilimovsky (400 IM, 1,650 free), Charlie Cole (200 free) and Will Hofstadter (100 breast).

This was the first time that Northwestern has won the TYR Invitational since the 2013 season.
