EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern goes in search of a conference title for the third time in the last four years when it travels to College Park, Maryland, for the Big Ten tournament.

The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the tournament and open play at 4:30 p.m. Central time Thursday against fifth-seeded Iowa. Northwestern is ranked No. 12 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA poll while the Hawkeyes are ranked 15th.

The two teams already have met twice this fall. The two teams squared off in a preseason scrimmage Aug. 20 in Evanston before the Hawkeyes posted a narrow 2-1 overtime victory in the regular-season matchup Oct. 14 at Lakeside Field.

The winner of Thursday's contest advances to take on the winner of the match between top-seeded Maryland and eighth-seeded Rutgers at 3 p.m. Friday in the semifinal round. Sunday's championship game is slated for an 11 a.m. start.

Northwestern's senior class is looking to go out in style with their third Big Ten championship. The team won a share of the league regular-season crown in 2013 as well as the first conference tournament title in school history in 2014.

A year ago, the Wildcats defeated Ohio State 4-0 in the quarterfinal round before dropping a hearbreaker to Maryland, 2-1 in double overtime.

Northwestern had three individuals earn All-Big Ten honors on Wednesday. Senior Isabel Flens and junior Sophia Miller earned first-team recognition while senior Dominique Masters was a second-team pick.

Flens and Masters are one of the top goal-scoring tandem in the nation. Both players rank among the top seven active players in nation in goals scored. Masters ranks sixth nationally with 51 career goals while Flens is right behind in seventh place with 49 tallies.

Flens paces the Wildcats with 15 goals and 38 points this season. Pascale Massey (13) and Masters (11) also are double-digit goal scorers for Northwestern. The 'Cats have a total of eight players with four or more goals this year.

Flens was named a selection to the NFHCA Senior Game earlier this week while Masters was named an alternate.

NU enters the contest ranked fifth in the nation with an average of 3.57 goals per game. The mark ranks second in the Big Ten to only Penn State (4.44).
