'Cats Close Out Regular Season with a Victory

EVANSTON, Ill. — Senior Brandon Medina's goal in the 35th minute proved to be the difference in Northwestern's 1-0 victory over Marian (WI) Tuesday afternoon at Martin Stadium.
Medina's goal was his fourth of the season and the fourth game-winner of his career.
Northwestern closed out its regular season campaign with a 6-10-1 overall record and a 3-4-1 mark in league play. The Wildcats tied for sixth in the final Big Ten Conference standings and earned the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament.
The team will travel to play the No. 2 seed Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday, Nov. 6, at noon.
The 'Cats dominated possession Tuesday afternoon, playing a majority of the contest in Marian's defensive third. Northwestern outshot the visitors, 23-4, which included 10 attempts that were put on net.
Marian's Ian Chacon tallied nine saves in the effort.
Medina's goal in the 35th minute came when freshman Sean Lynch played a ball to Sam Forsgren at the top of the box, who turned and touched a through ball to Medina for the goal.
The assists by Lynch and Forsgren were their first of the season.
Braden Thuraisingham made his second start of the season in net and tallied one save en route to his first career shutout.
Ty Seager and Ben Miller each made the first starts of their career.
The Wildcats head into the postseason with momentum having won four of its last five contests.
