ORLANDO — Northwestern suffered a 1-0 loss to the University of Central Florida on Wednesday night in non-conference action.
The result sends the Wildcats to 2-8-1 overall on the campaign, while UCF improved to 3-5 overall with the victory.
"We didn't do enough to win a tough game on the road," said head coach Tim Lenahan. "We will take tomorrow off and get back to practice on Friday. As we get set to leave Florida, our thoughts are with everyone here as Hurricane Matthew bears down on the state. We are hoping for everyone's safety."
UCF's Anton Delwar scored the lone goal of the contest in the 73rd minute off a Knights' set piece. Camden Buescher came off the bench for the 'Cats and put two shots on target.
Goalkeeper Francisco Tomasino made a career-high eight saves in the game. He was assessed a red card in the 83rd minute.
Mike Roberge and Jeffrey Hopson were active in the attacking third, each tallying a pair of shots.
Northwestern will return home on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to take on crosstown-foe UIC at Martin Stadium. Kick is set for 7 p.m. CT.
