TRIED AND TESTED
Chicago's Big Ten Team will face one of the most difficult schedules in the country in 2016. A year after playing the nation's hardest schedule, the Wildcats' slate again ranks up there among the hardest. Northwestern's future opposition has combined for a 155-76 (.671) record. That is the eighth-hardest future schedule in the country. Nine conference opponents are in this week's Top-25.
The Wildcats have faced or will face 17 teams who appeared in the 2015 NCAA tournament. They also have 13 matches against teams who were ranked and receiving votes at the end of last season. Northwestern plays six conference matches against the four teams predicted to finish at the top of the conference -- Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Penn State.
WIN THE FIRST SET
Northwestern is 7-2 in 2016 when it wins the first set, a year after going 13-0. The team was also 14-0 when it had the advantage in hitting percentage and is 6-2 this season.
SERVE'S UP
The Wildcats have served 77 aces this season as a team led by Symone Abbott's career high 17. The 'Cats have served five or more aces six times this season, including a seasonhigh nine against George Washington in the season opener. The 'Cats served eight in the very next match against Buffalo. Three Northwestern players (Symone Abbott - 17, Taylor Tashima - 15 and Sofia Lavin - 10) have served double-digit aces this year.
