Wildcats Seek to Rebound Against Iowa at Home

1/22/2016 9:30:00 AM | Women's Swimming and Diving

EVANSTON, Ill. - After falling to Notre Dame in a thrilling dual last weekend, the women's swimming & diving squad will host Iowa on Saturday in a Big Ten dual.

MEET NOTES (PDF)

The action will begin at 11 a.m. at the Norris Aquatics Center. This is the second-to-last meet of the season for the Wildcats before the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Championships.

LAST TIME OUT
Freshman phenom Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) set a season-high from the 1-meter springboard at Notre Dame, with a first-place score of 298.35. She also took home a first-place finish from the 3-meter springboard (334.70).

Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) collected her second NCAA 'B' qualification of the season in the 200 back with her first-place swim of 1:59.17. This season, Locke has notched 'B' cuts in both the 100 and 200 back.

Northwestern's distance free crew was also tremendous at Notre Dame. In the 1,000 free, the 'Cats notched a 1-2-3 finish, with Lauren Abruzzo (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) taking home the top spot.

In the 100 free, Annika Winsnes (Singapore/United World College) continued her first-place streak that has lasted the entire season. She also secured the top spot in the 200 free.

THREE'S COMPANY
For the third time this season, Rosendahl was the recipient of the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week award because of her first-place finish in both diving competitions and her season- and career-high from the 1-meter springboard.

Rosendahl has reached NCAA Zone Diving Standards in all three diving competitions this season.

SENIOR DAY
Before the competition begins on Saturday, Northwestern women's swimming & diving will honor their five senior student-athletes: Ellen Anderson (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg), Emily Launer (DeKalb, Ill./Rosary), Julianne Kurke (Atlanta, Ga./Parkview), Chelsea Soderholm (Madison, Wis./Madison East), and Julia Pratt (Vincennes, Ind./Vincennes Rivet).

WHO ARE THE HAWKEYES?
Last season, a short-handed Wildcat squad defeated Iowa in an away dual, 152-142. A team that was without their diving squad was able to pull through with a victory, mostly thanks to a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the 200 medley relay. Iowa last beat Northwestern in Jan. 2014.

Iowa is led by junior Emma Sougstad, who recently broke three school records in the 2015 Hawkweye Invitational. She also recently set four pool records at the Iowa Cy-Hawk Series. She holds the Iowa program records in the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM.

Freshman Kelly McNamara has performed well in her first season with the Hawkeyes, as she has held their top time in the 100 fly for the entire season. This year, she has already broken the Iowa program record in the event.
