DUAL RESULTS (PDF)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. —
Despite a career-best day by Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) and an NCAA 'B' qualification by Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), the Wildcats narrowly fell to Notre Dame by a score of 156.5-143.5.

The two teams met at Rolfs Aquatic Center, and were evenly matched throughout the competition. The Fighting Irish slowly edged ahead, but the Wildcats chipped away at the lead, taking home first place finishes in the final three events. However, it was not enough to overtake the home team.

Near the middle of the dual, Locke notched her second NCAA 'B' qualification in the 200 back this season with her first-place swim of 1:59.17. Melissa Postoll (Acworth, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) finished in fourth place, swimming the event in 2:01.78. Swimming the event for the third time this season, Alex Grimes (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) recorded a career-best time of 2:07.88.

Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) set a career-high from the 1-meter springboard with her first-place score of 298.35.

From the 3-meter springboard, Rosendahl finished in first for the fifth consecutive time in her collegiate career with her score of 334.70. Monique Demaisip (Norwalk, Calif./Gahr) scored a career-best 263.70, finishing in fifth place.

The Northwestern 'A' group in the 400 free relay put on a tremendous performance, finishing about five seconds faster than the next-closest group. The four NU swimmers in the 'A' team, Annika Winsnes (Singapore/United World College), Aja Malone (Acworth, Ga./Allatoona), Maddy Sims (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove) and Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), finished the event in 3:26.53. The 'B' quartet came close to defeating Notre Dame's 'A' squad, but took home third place with their 3:32.25 time.

The #B1GCats took home a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,000 free race, flexing their distance freestyle prowess. Lauren Abruzzo (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver), Ellen Anderson (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) and Sydney Modeas (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) finished with the top three spots. Modeas' time of 10:19.55 was her season-best in the event.

Northwestern had another strong performance in the 500 free distance event, as Anderson led the group with her second-place swim of 5:01.51. Right behind her was Abruzzo, who swam 5:02.37, good for third place.

Winsnes has yet to finish in any position but first place in the 100 free this season, and she continued the streak at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. Her swim of 50.55 put her on top of the entrants in the race. Warren finished in third place, and Malone and Katherine Senseman (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South Vigo) both swam season-bests in the event.

Northwestern gathered a first-place spot in the 50 free, as Warren swam the event in 23.27. Winsnes finished in third and Julia Pratt (Vincennes, Ind./Vincennes Rivet) finished in sixth.

Toward the end of the dual, Locke gathered a first-place finish with her time of 2:03.89. Three Wildcats (Peyton Greenberg [Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual], Lindsay Adamski [Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead], and Emily Launer [DeKalb, Ill./Rosary]) recorded career-bests in the event.

A top finish eluded the Wildcats in the 200 free, but they were able to collect the 3-6 spots, with Winsnes securing the top spot with her 1:50.85 swim. Malone and Megan Purdy (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City) recorded season-best times with their finishes of 1:53.80 and 1:55.50, respectively.

Locke collected a second-place finish with her 55.75 swim in the 100 back. Postoll and Jackie Doyle (Danville, Calif./San Ramon) finished fourth and fifth.

One again, NU collected the glut of the top times in an event, but were unable to capture the top spot. Sims was the top Wildcat finisher in the 200 fly with her second-place time of 2:02.94. Behind her was Ellen Stello (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood), Grimes and Launer. It was Launer's first swim in the 200 fly so far this season.

In the 100 breast, Katie Branch (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon Honors) led all NU competitors in the event with her fourth-place time of 1:05.46. Finishing right on her coattails was Julianne Kurke (Atlanta, Ga./Parkview), Adamski and Greenberg. Georgie Pettibone (Santa Rosa, Calif./Analy) recorded her season-high with her 1:07.44 swim.

The 'Cats finished 4-6 in the 200 breast, with Greenberg, Branch and Kurke notching top-six finishes in the event.

A similar fate befell the Wildcats in the 100 fly, as the squad captured spots three and four in the 100 fly.

In the first event of the afternoon, Northwestern's 'A' 200 medley relay quartet (Locke, Kurke, Pratt, Warren) swam a second-place time of 1:44.15. The 'B' group of Postoll, Adamski, Sims and Keane finished in fourth place with their time of 1:46.87.

The Wildcats are back in action next weekend as they host Big Ten rival Iowa on Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Norris Aquatics Center. Like all home Wildcat swimming and diving competitions, admission is free for all fans.
