Tournament Ready
• Northwestern moved into the top-25 of InterMat's weekly tournament poll on Jan. 5, coming in at No. 23 on the heels of a top-10 finish at the Midlands. Northwestern scored 61 points to place ninth with two individual place winners. Three wrestlers came within one match of the medal stand.
• The Wildcats are ranked 25th in the latest edition of the poll, released Jan. 12.

Sliga off to a Big Start
• Redshirt sophomore Mitch Sliga is off to a good start in his second season for Northwestern after dropping down to 174 lbs. from 184 last season. Sliga won eight of his first 10 matches, including a stretch of six in a row from Nov. 29 to Dec. 18. He has won nine of his last 12 and has scored 23 points for the Wildcats in duals, while only giving up five. His record stands at 11-5.

Into the Fire
• Season-ending injuries to two projected starters have enabled two true freshman to be plugged into the Northwestern lineup this year. Luke Norland has been wrestling all season at 165 lbs. and has won three matches in place of Johnny Sebastian, while Anthony Petrone made his collegiate debut at 157 lbs. against Iowa in place of Bryce Brill.
 • Norland has won two of his matches by fall, including one at the Midlands. He was the only Wildcat wrestler to avoid a bonus point decision in the dual against Iowa last Sunday, Jan. 10. The Okoboji, Iowa native registered 91 of his 170 high school wins by fall. He won the 2015 Minnesota state championship.
 • Petrone faced a tough test in his first ever match against Iowa's No. 16 Edwin Cooper, Jr. Petrone posted a high school winning percentage of .864 and was a 2013 Florida state champion and five-time state placewinner, including in eighth grade.
