MINNEAPOLIS - Seniors Alex Pasareanu and Alberto Zanotti continued competition at the Big Ten Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota on Sunday.
Pasareanu, the No. 15 seed in the draw, started his day by taking on sixth-seeded Mateus Silva of Purdue in the round of 16 and Pasareanu pulled off the upset, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
The win set up a matchup against top-seeded Dusty Boyer of Nebraska in the quarterfinals, but Pasareanu was defeated 6-2, 6-4.
In the consolation bracket, Zanotti worked hard to post a pair of victories. He started the day by taking on Michigan State's Alex Kim and Zanotti won a thriller, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (9). He followed up the effort by rolling past Jasper Koenen of Michigan State 6-1, 6-2.
