Wildcats Open Competition at Big Ten Indoor Championships

MINNEAPOLIS - Northwestern's representatives got action underway at the Big Ten Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday.

Friday's action consisted of doubles play. The Wildcats' duo of seniors Alex Pasareanu and Alberto Zanotti opened up against the Ohio State pairing of Matt Mendez and Riley Reist. The NU team went toe-to-toe with the Buckeyes but came up on the short end of an 8-7 decision in their opening match.

After receiving a bye in the consolation bracket, Pasareanu and Zanotti were suffered an 8-0 defeat at the hands of Nebraska's Scott Elsass and Linus Erhart. In their third and final match of the day, the Wildcats were defeated 8-4 by another Nebraska pairing, this time Marc Herrmann and Chris Hobgarski.

Action continues Saturday at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the start of singles play.
