BARCELONA, Spain -- Northwestern sophomore Jordan Wilimovsky (Malibu, Calif./Malibu) had a strong showing Saturday at the 2013 FINA World Championships in his first-ever swim at the 25K open water distance.
Wilimovsky, who qualified for the USA National Team with fourth-place results in both the 5K and 10K open water races at the National Championships and Team Trials in May, finished 14th overall in the world in the 25K with a time of 4:49.11.1, just 1.44.1 off the lead. That time is equivalent to finishing 200 yards behind the leader over a 25K course.
He was in the hunt for the championship up until the final lap of the nine-lap race, sitting only 15 seconds off the pace for much of the nearly five hours of racing.
