EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Wildcats' football and basketball play-by-play announcer and WGN Radio morning sports anchor Dave Eanet has been named the 2011 Illinois Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. This is Eanet's first Sportscaster of the Year honor.

"Dave Eanet is a tremendous broadcaster and a class-act," said Tom Langmyer, WGN Radio's vice president & general manager. "His passion, integrity and professionalism are apparent in everything that he does, and we're proud to have him on the WGN Radio team."

"Dave is the consummate professional," said Jim Phillips, Northwestern's Director of Athletics and Recreation. "He's known as 'Mr. Cat' in our department because of his tremendous love and passion for Northwestern Athletics. We're genuinely thrilled for him about a well-deserved honor."

Eanet has been sports director of WGN Radio since 1996. A graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Eanet has been the play-by-play voice of Northwestern football since 1990 and Northwestern men's basketball since 1996. He also is the host of the Wildcats' football and basketball coaches shows, as well as a co-host of Wildcat Insider, a weekly radio show on WGN.

In addition to his role at WGN Radio, Eanet is often seen as a sports anchor on WGN-TV news. He has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Award for "best sports play-by-play" and "best local sportscast." In 2005, Eanet was inducted as an honorary member of the Northwestern University Athletic Hall of Fame.

The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 1959 in Salisbury, N.C. NSSA's voting starts with a nomination process that runs from mid-October through mid-November. Final balloting is conducted throughout the month of December, with winners notified during the first two weeks of January. Eanet will be honored at the 53rd Annual NSSA Awards Banquet on June 11 in Salisbury, N.C.
