Northwestern Set To Host 14th Windon Memorial Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will host the 14th Windon Memorial Classic Sunday and Monday, Sept. 26-27, at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill., marking the fourth time the Club has hosted the Wildcats' home tournament.
After being comprised of 15 teams in recent years, the Windon field has expanded to 17 teams for the 2010 edition. Northwestern is welcoming Big Ten opponents Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue along with Kent State, UC Davis, Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, California, Tulsa, Long Beach State, Princeton, Florida Atlantic and Marquette.
The competitors will play a 7,067-yard, par-71 tract at North Shore Country Club, which previously hosted U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open Championships as well as the 1998, 2003 and 2008 playings of the Windon. The tournament will consist of 36 holes of continuous play beginning with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start Sunday before teams are re-paired and assigned tee-times for Monday's final round. Spectators are encouraged to attend; admission is free.
The Windon has an illustrious history, with current PGA TOUR members Joe Ogilvie, Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Ben Curtis finishing as runners-up in the event. Donald and current PGA TOUR member Hunter Mahan are past champions, as are current Nationwide Tour members Tom Johnson and 2007 U.S. Amateur and U.S. Public Links champion Colt Knost.
