2010-11 Northwestern Men's Basketball Big Ten Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. - A home game against Illinois that is to be televised by CBS highlights the 2010-11 Northwestern men's basketball schedule announced today (Aug. 26). The Wildcats also will have a minimum of four conference games televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.

Northwestern tips off league play with a New Year's Eve matinee matchup at Purdue that will be televised by ESPN2. It is the lone regular-season meeting between the teams this season.

Things don't get any easier for the Wildcats in their next contest as they take on Michigan State in their conference home opener Jan. 3. It marks the third consecutive season that the Spartans will be NU's opponent in its first Big Ten home game.

Northwestern's challenging start continues three days later as it heads south to Champaign to square off against Illinois in a contest to be shown on ESPN2.

Following a home game against Indiana and a road tilt at Iowa, the Wildcats conclude their season series with Michigan State Jan. 15 as they travel to East Lansing.

After playing four of its first six Big Ten games on the road, NU plays next four of its next five contests at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The homestand gets underway against Michigan Jan. 18 before Wisconsin heads to Evanston Jan. 23. A road game at Minnesota follows before the Wildcats and Ohio State square off in their lone regular-season meeting Jan. 29 in a game that is being shown on ESPN2.

Illinois comes to town Feb. 5 for what is believed to be the first game televised by CBS from Welsh-Ryan Arena. The last time Northwestern appeared in a game on CBS was Feb. 22, 2003 when the Wildcats and Fighting Illini faced off at the United Center in Chicago.

NU plays back-to-back games on the road, traveling to Michigan and Penn State, before returning home to face Iowa Feb. 17. A matchup at Indiana is then on tap for either Feb. 19 or 20. If selected, the contest would be aired on CBS on the latter of the two dates.

Penn State comes to Evanston Feb. 24 for a game that will be televised by either ESPN or ESPN2. The Wildcats play their final conference road game at Wisconsin Feb. 27 before the Big Ten slate concludes either March 2 or 3 with a showdown against Minnesota at home. The wildcard game would be shown on either ESPN or ESPN 2 if chosen to played March 3.

The 14th annual Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament will be played Thursday, March 10 through Sunday, March 13 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Northwestern will release its complete nonconference schedule in the near future.

A reminder that Wildcat fans can now make a deposit to secure season tickets to the 2010-11 men's basketball season in Welsh-Ryan Arena. The non-refundable deposit of $100 per seat will be applied toward the final cost of a full season ticket package, which will range from $125 to $350 dependent upon the number of home games and type of season ticket.
