Dec. 30, 2010

Hello Wildcat fans. Today marks a very special day for a number of teammates and myself. It was the last day of practice for our college careers. I couldn't tell you how many times I was asked today "are you gonna cry?" Fortunately for the manhood and pride of our football team, no one cried.

Thursday's practice was similar to our typical Thursday practices, except a slightly lighter tempo. We held our last practice of the year at Mesquite High School again and I am very excited about the possibility of securing some "Skeeter" gear in the near future. So thanks to the Mesquite High School for allowing us to prepare for a bowl victory at their facilities.

Post practice I personally feel that we had our best meal yet, some good ol' Texas-style BBQ, complete with brisket and ribs which were to die for. Everyone tried to eat as much as possible before we headed back to the hotel. There were plenty of jokes surrounding one of our teammates, who I wont mention (Brian Smith, cough, cough) who, so I have been told, ate a bit too many enchiladas after our practice at TCU and called on some dinosaurs while attempting to make the trek to the bathroom on the back of the bus. Fortunately for this ride home, there were no other offenders.

Once we got back to the hotel, we had Christmas number 2. We were able to pick out our bowl gifts from a suite set up in the hotel. The gifts ranged anywhere from a noise canceling headphones, Xbox 360s and surround sound systems. There was tons of commotion as all the guys were trying to figure out what to get. After selecting my gift, I retreated back to my hotel room.

I've been rooming with Quentin "Big Daddy" Davie for the past 2 years now and we've developed a good relationship over the years. Thankfully for me, this trip I didn't have to change any dirty diapers, babysit, or be awakened in the middle of the night from his newly born baby boy, because his fiance and little Q were unable to make the trip. Even though Quentin Jr. wasn't around, something this afternoon did wake up most of the `Cats who were still at the hotel around 5 p.m. because someone tripped the fire alarm and it did not turn off for a solid half hour. I was in the middle of getting my beauty rest before being awakened by the uproar of alarms, something I apparently need because Coach Bates told me this morning that "my girlfriend must be blind for being with me" (she must be a keeper I guess).

Once the alarm took its toll, one of my best friends, former Wildcat QB and LD Bell High School Superstar of Bedford, Texas, Joe Mauro came to visit before the Spurs vs. Mavericks game. Jack "the manager" Dinardo, Andrew "the mighty duckmeyer", Drake Dunsmore, and my "Mims Bellied" brother Quentin all accompanied Joe and I as we went to a local restaurant to get some steaks. Later on, we went to the first half of the Mavs game. This is something I was not looking forward to. Personally, I cannot stand professional basketball, there is simply no defense. However, Mark Cuban is a Pittsburgh guy, so I supported them for the first half in hopes that one day he will buy the Pirates who have now become more of a Triple A team than anything even slightly resembling a MLB franchise.

Anyways, after the game we headed back to the hotel to get some rest for our last day of preparation before we take on the Red Raiders. The Hyatt Regency here in Dallas has become even more purpley than the previous day as more and more fans start to set up camp. Everyone on the team is looking forward to seeing the Cotton bowl for the first time, and can't wait to see all our tremendous fans there to support us. Until next time, Go Cats!
