RIO MAR, P.R. -- Northwestern is in 10th place after Friday's first round of the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue on the Rio Mar Country Club River Course, with NU's top four golfers separated by four strokes.

Northwestern fired a team round of 8-over 294, two strokes behind Purdue and tied with Texas for 10th. The Wildcats and Longhorns are one stroke in front of the Flashes from Kent State.

David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) led the Wildcats with two even-par 36's on both nines to card an even-par 72 for the round. He currently is tied for 22nd in the field

One stroke behind Lipsky is Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) in 32nd with a 1-over 73. Bowers started out with a 2-over 38 on the front before coming back in 1-under par.

Freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) went 38-36 for a 2-over 74, followed by senior Andy DeKeuster (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran who went 38-37 for a 3-over 75.
