Wildcats Resume Spring Season in Puerto Rico

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will travel to Puerto Rico this weekend, February 27 through March 1 for its second tournament of the spring season, the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue.
The tournament will be help on the River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, P.R. This par-72, 6,902 yard course features wide fairways and open greens, and will be home to all three rounds of golf this weekend. The three-day tournament consists of a single 18-hole round on each day.
After winning three of its four matches two weekends ago at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Coral Springs, Fla., Northwestern will look to build upon its positive spring opening against a strong field of competitors in Puerto Rico. Among the 15 teams present at the tournament, 10 are ranked in Golfweek's Top 50, most notably No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Florida and No. 8 Clemson. This weekend, the Wildcats (ranked 51st) also will face No. 36 Michigan, No. 64 Purdue and No. 65 Minnesota from the Big Ten.
Led by freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/ International Christian School), the Wildcats were successful in their spring debut two weekends ago with an overall 3-1 finish. Chun, who earned two 6 and 5 wins for Northwestern during the Match Play Championship, made an impressive 26 birdies and only three bogies through 56 holes. Because of his outstanding play throughout the weekend, Chun was named to the All-Tournament team by the conference's coaches.
