OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Northwestern completed its first round of the 2008-09 season at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Friday at the Olympia Fields North Course. The Wildcats continue with round two of the 3-day tournament Saturday.

Northwestern is in 15th place following the opening round with a 28-over 308, five strokes behind 14th-place Purdue. Indiana, Illinois and Penn State are tied for first after firing team rounds of 8-over 288.

Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) began the day with birdies on three of his first four holes, but could not keep up that pace en route to a 6-over 76. His round paced the Wildcats along with sophomore Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), who also shot a 6-over 76. Dupont came back from a 5-over 40 on his opening nine to come home with a 1-over 36.

Freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) earned a 7-over 77 in his first collegiate outing, while junior Matt Denison (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) rounded out the Wildcats' scoring with a 9-over 79.

The Olympia Fields North Course served as host of the 2003 U.S. Open. The course is a par 70, 7,157-yard tract.

Round two of the 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the final round taking place at 8 a.m. Sunday. Live results are available at www.golfstat.com.
